Interns will have the opportunity to develop skills in group and individual therapy sessions across the lifespan. Weekly session are offered to all clients in-person at the Empower Phoenix Community Center and on Telehealth.
Requirements for our Interns
- Successful internship applicants will demonstrate a strong interest in therapy and working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
- They will have completed coursework in best therapy practices or a related field and have basic clinical skills.
- They will be able to work independently and as part of a team, have strong communication and interpersonal skills, and be committed to professional and ethical practice.
- They will also be able to demonstrate a willingness to learn and take feedback, as well as the ability to reflect on their clinical practice and apply new knowledge and skills.
Internship Experience:
- As a therapy intern at Empower Phoenix, you will have the opportunity to work with individuals with developmental disabilities in a variety of settings, including clinical, telepractice, and within the community. The hours each week will vary from 15-35 depending on the attendance of the caseload. You will work closely with experienced therapists who will provide supervision and mentorship as you develop your clinical skills and knowledge of the field following guidelines according to their respected national association guidelines and scope of practice.
- You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with other healthcare professionals (Music Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Speech-Language Therapy) and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.

Administrative Requirements
A cooperating agency agreement between the University academic program and Empower Phoenix LLC must be in place prior to the internship start date. In addition, each student intern must provide a copy of:
- Drivers License
- Passing a background check by Empower Phoenix
- Ability to pass randomized drug testing
- Level One fingerprint clearance (at applicant’s expense)
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (at applicant’s expense)
- Student professional legal liability insurance through University
- Personal computer (at applicant’s expense)
- Most recent resume on file with 3 verified references
